NVIDIA Completes Simulation of 104-Qubit Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing, Reducing Required Qubits by 90%
NVIDIA has completed a simulation of a 104-qubit fault-tolerant quantum processor using the JUPITER supercomputer at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre in Germany, claiming it to be the largest full simulation of its kind. This simulation validated one of the mainstream methods for fault-tolerant quantum computing, known as "magic state distillation," which reduces the required number of qubits by 90% compared to previous methods. The related work has shortened the simulation time from weeks to days, and NVIDIA stated that such simulations are expected to accelerate the timeline for practical quantum computers by several years.
