Lightning Labs launches LayerTree BTC scaling technology
Lightning Labs has launched LayerTree, a scaling technology enabling one million users to share a single unspent transaction output (UTXO). The system manages users' asset records off-chain in a tree structure, storing only a root value that summarizes the full ledger in the UTXO. Utilizing covenant technology, which imposes pre-set conditions on Bitcoin transactions, LayerTree verifies proofs against the recorded root each time the shared UTXO is utilized and updates the record with a new root value. Users can withdraw assets anytime in a single transaction without needing operator approval, maintaining custody of their funds, while operators cannot access user assets. LayerTree integrates with the Lightning Network, allowing users to receive assets offline, with no expiration date on holdings.
