HNT Rises Nearly 100% After Helium Wi-Fi Adoption in Celina

Celina, Texas, has partnered with Helium to transform the Wi-Fi in its public buildings into operator-quality cellular coverage. Phones automatically connect to the Helium network near the municipal library and partner businesses. The network handles about 100 GB of traffic per day, with new sites set to go live this fall. The city has experienced a 24.6% growth in its population, reaching over 12,700 residents in a year, the highest rate among U.S. cities with more than 20,000 residents. This announcement has propelled the HNT token, the native asset of the Helium network on the Solana blockchain, with an increase of nearly 100% in the hours following the announcement. Solana has also gained 41.6% over the last 30 days, trading around $103. Helium is part of the DePIN projects, rewarding physical infrastructure with cryptocurrencies. Celina joins other cities like Redondo Beach and New Orleans, totaling over 42,000 access points in the United States. Amy Alexander, the director of information technology, emphasized that Helium allows the use of existing Wi-Fi without additional costs. Mario Di Dio, CEO of Helium, noted that the demand for connectivity in a rapidly growing city cannot wait for new infrastructure. However, some observers remain cautious, reminding that Celina has about 70,000 residents and that other partnerships have not had a similar impact on prices.
