BTCPay Server Docker users must select Tor for onion access
BTCPay Server users running the software via Docker must explicitly choose Tor during their next setup or update to maintain onion access. This change, detailed in the Oct. 5 announcement for version 2.4.5, removes Tor from the automatically included components, making it a configuration choice for administrators. The software release was recorded on Oct. 6. Existing installations will need to make this selection during their next Docker setup or update. This change is significant for operators relying on Tor for access through their server's onion address. BTCPay advises reviewing deployment changes before updating, with the command to enable Tor being sudo btcpay-fragments add opt-add-tor. Tor support remains, and existing data in current Tor volumes will be preserved, but continued onion access depends on including and running Tor in the deployment. The optional Tor fragment opt-add-tor adds hidden services and onion connectivity. Operators can inspect their configuration using btcpay-fragments show. Additionally, the 2.4.5 release notes indicate a breaking change for outbound HTTP requests, blocking private-network destinations by default for certain connections to prevent server-side request forgery (SSRF). Operators using private services must allow necessary destinations through ssrfexceptions and restart the application after changing the setting.
