AI Trading: Start With a Review of Your Own Trades

By: WEEX|11/05/2026 09:10:00

TL;DR

  • AI can help organize trading records and create a repeatable review process.
  • Beginners can use it to establish a journal and identify gaps in their records.
  • Experienced traders can use it to compare execution with their rules and investigate overlooked patterns.
  • A profitable trade can break your rules; a losing trade can follow them. Review the decision process as well as the outcome.
  • WEEX Agent Skills includes separate workflows for collecting trading-history and read-only analysis. These support review, not guaranteed improvements in performance.

Every day, you check the prices, read market updates and look for the next opportunity. But how often do you give your own trading history the same attention?
Before asking AI what to trade next, ask what it can help you learn from the trades you have already made.

Your account balance tells you where you stand. A trading review asks how you got there, and whether your decisions followed a process you can repeat.

That distinction is where AI can become useful. For someone starting from scratch, it can help turn scattered records into a manageable review routine. For someone with an established trading system, it can offer another way to question assumptions and examine execution.

The value goes beyond calculating profit and loss. AI can help you ask more consistent questions about how you trade.

Your Trading History Is More Than a Scoreboard

A profitable trade is easy to remember. So is a frustrating loss. Neither necessarily represents the rest of your trading.
Consider the difference between these statements:

Perspective
Example
What you remember
“My last three trades were profitable.”
What a review might reveal
“Most of my recent profit came from one trade. The remaining trades lost money after recorded costs.”

Both could describe the same period. The second gives you more to investigate.

A useful review connects results with position size, timing, costs and the rules behind each decision. It also distinguishes what the records show from what you remember.

AI can assist with that organization. Instead of manually rebuilding the same tables each time, you can ask it to group records consistently, explain its calculations and flag missing information.

You still need to check the output. The aim is to make regular reviews easier to sustain.

Starting From Zero: Build a Routine Before a Trading System

If you do not currently review your trades, you do not need to begin with a complicated dashboard.
Start with one defined period and a small set of questions:

Review question
What to record
What did I trade?
Instrument, direction, entry and exit details
How much exposure did I take?
Position size and leverage, where applicable
Why did I enter?
Your reason, recorded at the time
What would invalidate the idea?
The original exit or risk condition
What happened?
Execution, recorded costs and outcome
Did I follow my plan?
A comparison between the original rule and actual action

Transaction history can supply part of this information. Your reasoning and original plan usually require a journal.

AI can help turn those inputs into a consistent template. Example prompt::
Help me review this period’s trades. Separate recorded facts from my notes and your interpretations. Summarize results and costs, identify missing information, and suggest three questions for my next review. Do not infer my emotions or recommend trades.
Repeat the same review structure over time. Consistent definitions make comparisons more meaningful than a different analysis after every session.

The first achievement is a process you can maintain: record, review, identify a question and check it against later evidence. A trading system can develop from that work; it should not be treated as something AI can validate in one conversation.

Already Have a System? Ask AI to Challenge Your Explanation

An established process brings structure. It can also make you comfortable with familiar explanations.

Perhaps you believe your losses come from poor entries. Perhaps you believe larger positions are reserved for stronger setups. A second review can examine whether the records support those beliefs.

Is Your Profit Concentrated in a Few Trades?

Ask how much of the period’s result came from the largest gains and losses.

Hypothetical example:
Result component
Illustrative amount
Combined result of two trades
+1,400 USDT
Combined result of the other 18 trades
−400 USDT
Total across 20 trades
+1,000 USDT

For this simplified example, all amounts use the same currency and already include the recorded costs.

The period was profitable, but the profit was concentrated. That does not prove the system is flawed: some strategies depend on a small number of large winners. The useful question is whether this distribution matches the strategy’s design. Removing the largest winners is a sensitivity check, not proof that they should be ignored.

Does Your Behavior Change After a Loss?

Ask whether the next position tends to be larger, whether the interval before re-entry changes, or whether trading activity increases.

These are observable sequences. They do not establish “revenge trading.”

A planned strategy adjustment could produce the same pattern. Compare it with your written rules before drawing conclusions about why it happened.

Does Execution Match the Plan?

A trading history shows what happened. A journal helps establish what was supposed to happen.

With both, a review can examine whether you changed an exit condition, increased exposure beyond your rule or entered without the conditions your system required.

A winning trade can reveal an execution problem. A losing trade can still represent disciplined execution. Looking only at PnL may blur that distinction.

Turn Observations Into Questions You Can Test

An AI-generated pattern should begin an investigation.

Observation
Better follow-up question
Larger positions followed losses
Was that permitted by the position-sizing rule?
Shorter holding periods had weaker results
Were these a different strategy or market condition?
More trades coincided with higher costs
Did the additional activity contribute enough trading profit to cover those costs?
Results improved after a rule change
Did risk exposure, market conditions or the sample period also change?

Avoid rewriting your system after every apparent pattern. A small sample can produce convincing stories that do not persist.

Document the observation, consider alternative explanations and define what evidence would support or weaken it. Where practical, change one element at a time and evaluate it over a meaningful subsequent sample, including simulated testing where appropriate.

AI can help structure that process. It cannot establish that a proposed change will improve future returns.

Where WEEX Agent Skills Fits

The WEEX Agent Skills offers two separate workflows for collecting trading history and analyzing existing records.

The trader skill can collect trading history and, with the required API permissions and authorization, place or cancel spot and futures orders. Private account access requires API credentials, so review permissions carefully and enable only those needed for your task.

The analysis skill serves a different role: it reviews previously collected or exported records without connecting to a live private account or placing or canceling orders. A records-only review does not require trade-execution permissions. Never paste API secrets into chat.

That provides a starting point for an AI-assisted review. More detailed questions may require additional material, such as your original trading plan, journal or matching market data.

WEEX Agent Skills includes separate workflows for collecting trading history and analyzing existing records. The analysis skill is read-only; the trader skill also supports trading operations.

Make the Next Review Easier to Start

You do not need AI to tell you whether the last trade made money.

Its more useful role is helping you examine the decisions you repeat, the assumptions you rely on and the questions you have not consistently asked.

For a new reviewer, that may mean building a journal you will actually use. For an experienced trader, it may mean finding a gap between the system you describe and the trades you execute.

Start with one period, a consistent template and one question worth investigating. Let the records challenge your explanation.

FAQ

Can AI help me start a trading journal?

Yes. It can help structure a template and organize suitable records. You need to supply information that transaction history does not contain, including your original reasoning and planned risk conditions.

What can AI reveal beyond profit and loss?

It can help examine profit concentration, position-size changes, trading sequences and differences between planned and actual execution. The analysis depends on available data and requires verification.

Can AI tell whether I am trading emotionally?

Transaction records alone cannot reliably establish emotions or motives. AI can flag behavior for you to examine alongside your journal and strategy rules.

Can AI build a profitable trading system for me?

AI can assist with documenting rules, organizing evidence and developing testable questions. It cannot establish a durable profitable strategy from a short history or guarantee future results.

Do I need to enable trading permissions for a records-only review?

No trade-execution permission is needed to analyze an existing export. Collecting private account data is a separate workflow with its own access requirements
