Trump Signs Executive Order to Establish U.S. Space Academy
On August 29, Trump signed an executive order to initiate the process of creating the U.S. Space Academy. The academy will serve the U.S. Space Force, NASA, and the civilian space industry, modeled after West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy, with the aim of attracting, training, and graduating the best talent in the country. The location of the academy will be announced later, and Trump hinted that Texas Senator Ted Cruz has lobbied for it to be based in Texas. Trump also emphasized his space strategy, which includes the establishment of the Space Force during his first term and a planned Mars mission set for 2028, during which a nuclear-powered interstellar spacecraft will be deployed.
