Trump Releases AI Video Claiming Hark Island Was Destroyed, U.S. Military Actually Strikes Larak Island
On August 31, U.S. President Trump posted two AI-generated videos on Truth Social, claiming that "Hark Island was blown to smithereens." The videos showed oil fields, storage tanks, and docks being hit by missiles. However, there is currently no evidence that the U.S. military actually attacked Hark Island. The U.S. Central Command stated that the military conducted a "limited and precise" strike on Sunday against forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard responsible for laying mines, targeting Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz, aiming to eliminate threats to commercial shipping and civilian vessels. Hark Island is located far from Larak Island, with the former being a major oil export hub for Iran. It remains unclear whether the AI videos released by Trump were produced by his team, and it cannot be confirmed whether he confused Larak Island with Hark Island. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed to have launched ballistic missiles at two U.S. military bases in Jordan, while Jordanian officials stated that their air defense systems intercepted eight missiles, with no casualties reported. Hamid Bovard, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, stated that oil operations on Hark Island have not ceased, denying Trump's claims about the island being destroyed.
