Trezor Logistics Partner ShipMonk Data Breach Expands, 67,000 U.S. Users Affected
Trezor has updated the situation regarding the data breach involving its logistics partner ShipMonk, stating that the scale of the breach was underestimated. Approximately 67,000 U.S. users who placed orders between November 2019 and August 2021 had their information fully exposed, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, shipping addresses, and order numbers. Trezor indicated that it had confirmed with ShipMonk that the relevant data had been deleted according to contract and data policies and had received written assurances; however, the data was not actually deleted from the partner's system, which Trezor finds disappointing. Trezor stated that its own systems were not affected and that the hardware wallets remain secure, but affected users may face an increased risk of targeted phishing attacks. All affected users have been individually notified via email. This incident was first disclosed on August 13, initially affecting about 13,700 users. Trezor has stated that it is accelerating the launch of anonymous shipping services to reduce the risk of information exposure when users place orders.
