Reuters Survey Shows Economists Predict Fed Will Not Raise Rates in October, Will Raise in December
A Reuters survey shows that nearly all economists predict the Federal Reserve will maintain the federal funds rate in the range of 3.75% to 4.00% at its October meeting, with expectations for a rate hike in December. In the survey, 94 economists believe there will be no rate increase in October, while all 100 respondents expect a rate hike in December, a stark contrast to less than half of the expectations in last month's survey. Alex Pelle, a senior economist at Mizuho Bank, stated that given the strong economy and rising inflation, it would be a mistake for the Fed not to raise rates in October, predicting a 25 basis point increase in December, with a potential total increase of 50 basis points.
