MetaMask Enhances Wallet Security Features and Introduces Red Pill Attack Prevention
MetaMask announced on September 15 that it has strengthened its wallet security features. With cryptocurrency hacking losses exceeding $1 billion in the first four months of 2026, the need for user protection has increased. This overhaul focuses on the remittance and transaction approval stages. In the remittance stage, a fraud pre-blocking feature and address contamination detection feature have been added, allowing users to receive warnings before their funds are withdrawn. MetaMask users report losses of $2 million to $5 million monthly, with individual users losing $50 million due to address contamination attacks. In the transaction approval stage, additional protective features based on smart account infrastructure have been introduced, which automatically reverses transactions if the transaction result does not match the on-chain result. This feature blocks vulnerabilities to red pill attacks, and it is estimated that 596 ETH has already been leaked from MetaMask holders. MetaMask, a self-custody wallet used by over 30 million people in 190 countries, plans to set security standards.
