Kazakhstan Launches KZTg Tenge Stablecoin on Telegram
Kazakhstan has introduced its first tenge stablecoin for Telegram: KZTg is pegged to the national currency at a one-to-one ratio, marking the first legal format of the Kazakh tenge in the blockchain infrastructure of the messenger.
- KZTg is the first stablecoin in tenge available to Telegram users.
- Each token is backed by tenge at a 1:1 ratio.
- The project has been launched in the regulatory sandbox of the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The presentation of KZTg took place in Almaty at the Central Asia Fintech Summit 2026. Independent financial analyst Andrey Chebotarev announced the launch of the TG Coin project. According to his assessment, this is the first stablecoin in the national currency within Telegram in Central Asia and the first non-dollar stablecoin in the TON network.
How KZTg Works and Its Importance to the Market
The service mechanics are designed to be as simple as possible: the user tops up their balance using a bank card or transfer at the rate of 1 tenge = 1 KZTg, and then can withdraw money back into the national currency without leaving Telegram. Identity verification is required to access transactions.
Each transaction is checked against sanction lists and databases of politically significant individuals. The project operator is LLP <
The emergence of KZTg is directly related to the structure of the global stablecoin market. Currently, the distribution looks like this:
- USD stablecoins: 99.76% of the market.
- All other currencies combined: 0.24%, or about $771 million, with a total volume exceeding $320 billion.
What is a Stablecoin and What Types Exist
A stablecoin is a digital asset whose value is pegged to another understandable measure: a currency, crypto asset, or price maintenance algorithm. Its purpose is to smooth out the sharp fluctuations characteristic of regular cryptocurrencies and make transactions more convenient: the user receives a blockchain tool but with a more predictable price.
The main types of stablecoins differ based on what maintains the peg:
- Fiat-backed: issued against reserves in regular money, as in the case of KZTg with a 1:1 peg to the tenge.
- Crypto-backed: maintain reserves in crypto assets, usually with a buffer in case of a drop in the collateral price.
- Algorithmic: attempt to maintain the exchange rate through rules for issuing and redeeming tokens rather than through direct cash reserves.
Stablecoins differ from regular cryptocurrencies in their purpose. Bitcoin and other volatile assets are often purchased for price growth or as a market asset, while stablecoins are used for transactions, transfers, liquidity storage, and quick transitions between instruments.
Popular Stablecoins, Purchase, and Risks
The most popular stablecoins are usually referred to as USDT, USDC, and DAI. The reliability of the market is built not only on the size of the token but also on the transparency of reserves, regular audits, the reputation of the issuer, and clear redemption rules.
Stablecoins can usually be purchased through cryptocurrency exchanges, P2P platforms, and exchanges. In the Kazakh context, the infrastructure of Binance Kazakhstan plays an important role, and the launch of KZTg adds another scenario—operations with the stablecoin in Telegram after user identification.
Earning on stablecoins is attempted through staking, farming, deposits, and arbitrage. However, this is not a risk-free income: there remains the risk of issuer default, weak backing, regulatory restrictions, technical failures, and losses on platforms where funds are placed.
The prospects for stablecoins are linked to transactions, tokenization, payment hubs, and integration with banks. For Kazakhstan, this is particularly noticeable: KZTg, digital tenge, tax services, and projects with Binance are coming together in a line of development for digital finance.
For a user from Kazakhstan, this meant a simple thing: entering the cryptocurrency market often meant actually buying a dollar-denominated instrument. In this scenario, cryptocurrency became not only a technology but also a means of dollarization. KZTg offers a different route --- with settlements in the national currency.
For KZTg, trust in reserves remains key: the market needs not loud promises of backing but regular public audits and an understanding of who exactly conducts them. The fact has already occurred --- the tenge has legally appeared on the blockchain.
The National Bank introduced comprehensive rules for digital assets starting May 1, 2026. The new framework separately highlights digital financial assets, including stablecoins backed by money. The Central Asia Fintech Summit took place on September 11 in Almaty and gathered over 4,000 participants from the finance and technology sectors.
Kazakhstan Gathers Digital Financial Ecosystem
The launch of KZTg fits into Kazakhstan's broader course towards digital finance. At Astana Finance Days 2026, the Astana ecosystem (international financial center) presented a platform for tokenizing music royalties, expanding the digital asset market, and a separate session on investments in Artificial Intelligence.
Digital assets have become one of the cross-cutting themes of the business program. Tools operating under the AFSA license have become available to participants of the Investment Tax Residency Program. Against this backdrop, the Digital Tenge and stablecoins in the national currency appear as parts of a single agenda: the state is testing different forms of digital money and settlements.
An important element of this structure becomes the international payment infrastructure. The National Bank and Binance signed a memorandum to create a regional settlement hub. It is intended to service payments and operations with digital assets for clients from Central Asia, the CIS, and Eastern Europe.
The project of the settlement hub relies on the emergence of a new type of market participant --- a first-category payment organization. Binance intends to obtain such a license. Prior to this, the exchange signed three memoranda: with the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, the National Bank, and the AIFC. The agreements covered digital assets, payment infrastructure, and investments.
The parties also agreed to explore the possibility of issuing a stablecoin. The launch of KZTg shows how this idea is transitioning from discussions to practical implementation. For a market where investors are used to comparing everything with the dollar, Bitcoin, and large networks like Solana, the emergence of an instrument in tenge shifts the focus of the conversation.
Why the Launch is Important Not Only for the Crypto Market
Kazakhstan is building an infrastructure where banks, exchanges, fintech companies, and regulators begin to operate within a single system. In this logic, settlement hubs, tokenization, tax services, digital assets, and projects like KZTg come together. Players and partnership models are already noticeable in the market:
- Intebix
- Eurasian Bank
- Mastercard
Against this backdrop, the stablecoin in tenge appears not as a separate experiment but as a continuation of the country's fintech course.
A separate direction is taxes for retail investors. Binance Kazakhstan launched an automatic tax calculation service for operations with digital assets: the service collects transaction history and generates a ready document for the 2025 tax declaration. This lowers the barrier for users who find it important to work legally with digital instruments.
The regulatory agenda is developing against the backdrop of interest in digital money in various jurisdictions. Russia, the United States, and the National Bank of Ukraine view digital assets and payment infrastructure in their own ways, while Kazakhstan bets on controlled pilots and connections with financial institutions. For the domestic market, this is especially important in conditions where inflation and currency risks remain sensitive topics for private investors.
In the National Bank, the digital financial agenda is linked to a broader transformation of the market, and its public development is associated with Timur Suleimenov. Together with KZTg, the settlement hub, tokenization, and tax services, Kazakhstan is forming an ecosystem in which it aims to play a role as one of the key digital financial centers in the region.
