Japan's GMO Internet Group has suffered a cyber attack, with hackers claiming to have leaked customer information after not receiving a $50 million ransom. GMO has not yet confirmed whether a subsequent ransomware attack has occurred. The company suspended foreign exchange trading services and stopped accepting new subscriptions starting October 21; all servers of its domain and cloud service Onamae.com have been compromised, potentially affecting all users. Some customers have reported unauthorized transactions. Japan's Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki stated that five foreign exchange trading companies have reported that their customers have been affected by this incident, and no new unauthorized transaction reports have been received so far. GMO has requested government assistance to block the source of the attack and has called for proactive cyber defense measures. Concerns over the intensified impact of the cyber attack led to GMO's stock price experiencing its largest drop since 2011 on Monday.
