Intel Applies Up to 256 Cores and 18A-P Process to Diamond Rapids
Intel has announced that it will apply up to 256 cores and the Intel 18A-P process to its next-generation server Xeon processor, Diamond Rapids. This processor features a 1.28GB last-level cache (LLC), 16 memory channels, and a memory speed of 12800 MT/s. For I/O specifications, it provides 128 lanes supporting PCIe 6th generation and CXL 3.0. Diamond Rapids is based on the Intel 18A-P process and utilizes Foveros Direct 3D packaging and UCIe-S interconnects. Intel describes this processor as a general-purpose processor for enterprise-grade agent AI, also presenting a high-bandwidth memory subsystem along with new advanced performance extensions (APX) and enhanced advanced matrix extensions (AMX). The Intel 18A-P is a performance-enhanced process of the existing 18A series, offering 9% higher performance at the same power or 18% lower power consumption at the same performance. This announcement also included the Crescent Island inference GPU for data centers and the Wildcat Lake for client and edge applications. Intel did not disclose the release date, commercial product pricing, or information about major customers for Diamond Rapids.
