Expansion of Central Asia-Europe Startup Competition, AI Projects Account for 84%

The "Road to Battlefield" startup competition, promoted by Silkroad Innovation Hub in collaboration with TechCrunch, Freedom Holding, Astana Hub, and Uzbekistan IT Park, has entered its second year. This project targets entrepreneurs in the Central Asia-Europe region, aiming to select representative teams to participate in the TechCrunch Disrupt Startup Battlefield 200 event in San Francisco this October.

Number of Applications Increases to 726
The organizers disclosed that the 2026 competition received a total of 726 applications from 39 countries, a significant increase from last year's 485 applications from 27 countries. The online roadshow evaluations took place from July 6 to 20, with 47 judges participating from 8 countries.

This year, 22 startups have reached the regional finals, from which 3 will be selected to represent the Central Asia-Europe region in the U.S. The regional finals are scheduled for August 12.

AI Projects Account for Approximately 84%
In terms of project structure, AI has become the most concentrated direction in this year's competition. Among the 726 applicants, 609 are developing AI products, accounting for about 84%. This indicates that AI has become one of the most common entry points for entrepreneurial teams in the region.

The 22 companies entering the regional finals come from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Qatar, Japan, Romania, and the United States. Notably, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan each have 6 teams in the finals, reflecting their high activity in the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Increased Prize Money and OpenAI Resources
The participating teams are primarily early-stage projects, with 41.6% at the MVP stage, 38.6% at the pre-seed stage, 14.7% at the seed stage, and 4.7% still at the idea stage. In terms of age structure, the youngest applicant is only 14 years old, and among all applicants, 89 entrepreneurs are under 18.

This year's competition has introduced a $100,000 investment prize pool, jointly provided by Astana Hub Ventures, IT Park Ventures, and Silkroad Innovation Hub. The top three teams will receive $50,000, $30,000, and $20,000 respectively. In addition to cash prizes, the top three will also share up to $100,000 in OpenAI API credits in the same proportion, while the remaining teams in the top 22 will each receive $10,000 in OpenAI API credits.

Additional Information: The final winning teams will also receive full travel and accommodation support to compete in San Francisco, as well as access to a network covering 39 countries and over 1,000 entrepreneurs.
