DeepSeek Plans to Acquire 160,000 Huawei Ascend 950DT Chips to Build AI Computing Center
DeepSeek plans to deploy at least 160,000 Huawei Ascend 950DT accelerator chips in a new data center in Inner Mongolia, creating one of the largest known Huawei AI chip clusters in China. These chips will primarily be used for model inference, while DeepSeek's core training has still relied on Nvidia chips in the past. Due to shortages of high-end storage and other components, Huawei's production of Ascend 950DT chips is expected to be only in the hundreds of thousands this year, and the delivery period for DeepSeek's order may exceed one year. The project's target computing scale aims to reach the exascale level, and DeepSeek is seeking to raise several billion dollars to expand its infrastructure, having also requested regulatory assistance to coordinate with Huawei for expedited supply.
