Born in Argentina, it became the safest global crypto asset app in Latin America

A global crypto asset app born in Buenos Aires has just marked a milestone that places it among the safest in the crypto ecosystem. It is called Ripio, a sector leader since 2014, and it has just transformed into the first company in Latin America to achieve the highest international security certification in the custody of digital assets: the CCSS v8.1 Level III Full System. To understand the magnitude of this achievement, it is important to know that most digital platforms are protected by rather classic system audits, akin to putting an alarm on a house. Beyond this, there are more demanding reviews, such as the CryptoCurrency Security Standard (CCSS), specifically designed for the crypto ecosystem. It is the most rigorous in the world. Achieving Level III of this certification means subjecting the entire infrastructure—from virtual wallets for daily operations to offline “vaults” (cold storage)—to the most extreme stress tests on the planet. This achievement is not a surprise for those who know how the crypto app business works from the inside: nearly 10% of Ripio's total staff is composed exclusively of cybersecurity specialists, with continuous defense teams and internal “attackers” (Red Team) dedicated to finding vulnerabilities before any external threat can catch them off guard. Level III security is obtained through maximum requirement protocols against cyber attacks, absolute segregation of private keys, advanced multifactor authentication, and an emergency response scheme where nothing is left to chance.

The CCSS standard emerged as a response to security breaches and million-dollar hacks that marked the beginning of Bitcoin. Very few major players have achieved Level III; it is a success reserved for a handful of global actors: giants like BitGo or the infrastructure platform Fireblocks in the United States, and a select group of European firms specialized in custody for major players. That a company born on the banks of the Río de la Plata shares today that same group of technological shielding, reserved exclusively for entities capable of operating with total resilience and without flaws, not only places it on par with the global powers of the sector. It also positions the region at the center of the upcoming financial scene. "This certification is the result of years of work by a team that decided to subject our infrastructure to the most demanding audit that exists. Being the first company in Latin America to reach this level confirms that it is possible to build world-class financial infrastructure from the region," highlighted Sebastián Serrano, CEO and co-founder of Ripio. He added: "We want every person and every institution that operates with us—in Argentina, Brazil, or any of the eight countries where we are present—to know that security is not a separate chapter of our business: it is the foundation upon which we build everything else." This fortified architecture explains why the platform, which has already surpassed 28 million users among its direct services and corporate infrastructure, not only serves the saver operating from the app on their mobile phone. It is also the reason why giants like Mercado Pago, IOL Inversiones, Coinbase, or the Itaú group in Uruguay choose Ripio's technology to cement their own digital operations. With a solid presence in eight countries (including Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and the United States) and the historical backing of global investors like Tim Draper or the Digital Currency Group, the firm reaffirms its original premise: in a market where innovation tends to run fast, true leadership is not just about arriving first, but about building foundations so solid that no one can topple them. Beyond its mobile application, where users can trade with more than 40 cryptocurrencies and digital assets, operate in DeFi protocols, or pay with a card that gives cashback in crypto, the true backbone of Ripio lies in its B2B division, Ripio Business. Through services like crypto as a service, tokenization, and on/off ramps for funds, the company provides the technical architecture for entities like Ripple or the Uruguayan wallet OCA Blue (from the Itaú group) to integrate cryptocurrencies simply and securely. The commitment to regional innovation added in 2023 the launch of LaChain, a proprietary blockchain network designed for the needs of Latin America and integrated into the Ethereum ecosystem. This comprehensive deployment earned Ripio recognition from the World Economic Forum (WEF) as a pioneering company in the region, along with financial backing from key Silicon Valley funds like Medici Ventures.
