Bitcoin miners face 50 billion dollar financing gap for AI transition
Bitcoin mining companies require approximately 50 billion dollars to transition operations to AI and HPC infrastructure. This financing gap has intensified as lenders impose stricter reviews on data center completion and contract structures, leading to increased borrowing costs. GPU loan rates at IREN rose from around 6% in June to approximately 9% in August. Cipher relinquished a 5.4% equity stake for a lease guarantee from Google, heightening shareholder dilution risk. Data from VanEck and BlocksBridge indicates that major miners such as IREN (21.1 billion dollars), Riot (7.2 billion dollars), and Hive (4.6 billion dollars) are experiencing significant funding pressures, making capital-raising capacity crucial for corporate survival.
