Analyst Says Speed of Inflation Return to Target is More Important Than Current Level
Felipe Villarroel of TwentyFour Asset Management stated that the Federal Reserve faces a difficult balancing act. Despite inflation being above target and rising oil prices due to tensions in the Middle East adding upward pressure, the U.S. economy continues to show resilience. The market expects the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates by 25 basis points, which TwentyFour believes is the most likely outcome. Villarroel emphasized that it is more important for inflation to return to target quickly to prevent inflation expectations from becoming entrenched. He pointed out that recent comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Waller indicate a focus on restoring the Fed's anti-inflation credibility, and this meeting will be the first to clarify how policy reflects this.
