Ukraine to Increase Timber Harvesting to 15.5 Million Cubic Meters by 2027
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine plans to increase the volume of timber harvesting to 15.5 million cubic meters by 2027. In 2025, the harvesting volume was 11.7 million cubic meters. The government also aims to boost the production of the woodworking and furniture industries by 5% and ensure a 10% increase in the share of high value-added products in exports. In 2026, it is planned to approve the Strategy for the Development of the Woodworking and Furniture Industries until 2030. Key reforms include the introduction of unified rules for the timber market for all users, the implementation of European standards for goods related to deforestation, and the completion of the corporatization of the State Enterprise 'Forests of Ukraine' with a moratorium on the alienation of shares. On August 17, the Cabinet of Ministers approved an activity program that will be reviewed by parliament soon. Previously, record timber harvesting faced weak demand, leading to a buildup of timber in warehouses.
