Ukraine Faces Shortage of Dry Milk Due to Rising Prices
In Ukraine, there has been a sharp rise in the prices of dry milk, which has nearly reached a historical record. High global prices make export more profitable for factories than selling on the domestic market. The global increase in the price of skimmed milk powder has affected Ukrainian prices, where products are already being offered at prices significantly exceeding summer levels. Cheap offers within the country have practically disappeared, and quality products continue to rise in price. Prices for whole dry milk are also increasing, with potential export values significantly higher than July levels; however, export volumes may not increase due to high domestic demand. The production volume of skimmed milk powder has begun to decline, as output was reduced in August due to a lack of raw materials for drying. Further reductions in production are expected in the fall due to seasonal decreases in milk supply and factories shifting to other dairy products. Producers of whole dry milk increased their volumes at the end of summer, but a decline is also forecasted for the fall. Limited supply and high demand are leading to further increases in retail and wholesale prices for dry milk in Ukraine.
