Trezor Data Breach; Details of 67,000 More Customers Exposed
Trezor announced that a data breach at the shipping company ShipMonk has exposed the personal information of 67,000 more customers in the United States. This incident did not involve wallets or private keys, but it increases the risk of targeted phishing and physical threats to the affected individuals. The newly identified customers made purchases from Trezor between November 2019 and August 2021. Their names, emails, phone numbers, delivery addresses, and order numbers remained in the shipping company's system and were exposed during the security breach. Last month, Trezor had reported an initial number of affected individuals at around 13,689. With the addition of this new group, the known number of affected customers exceeds 80,000. The company stated that ShipMonk had not deleted old order information after the retention period, contrary to its written commitment. Trezor's systems, devices, recovery phrases, and private keys were not hacked in this incident. However, criminals can use the name, phone number, and real address of the victim to create more convincing fake messages or calls, posing as Trezor support. Trezor has informed customers and advised them not to trust emails, calls, or letters requesting immediate action or recovery phrases.
