Tether Releases Open Source AI Translation Models Supporting African and European Languages
Tether AI Research has launched a series of open-source AI translation models that can run offline locally. This includes TranslatePsy-AfriSLM, which supports 19 African languages, TranslatePsy-AfriNano, which supports 8 African languages, and TranslatePsy-EuroNano, covering 9 European languages. User data is kept entirely on local devices. The smallest version of TranslatePsy-AfriSLM has only 800 million parameters and outperforms larger models in several translation benchmark tests. The team has eliminated up to 96% of low-quality training data through a new data quality filtering method. The minimum deployment version of TranslatePsy-EuroNano requires only 36MB of storage, reducing the need by approximately 94% compared to similar solutions. The related models have been open-sourced on Hugging Face.
