S&P Global Survey Shows Cautious Attitude of American Consumers Towards Stablecoins and AI Agents
On September 13, S&P Global Market Intelligence released its second-quarter "Voice of the Customer" survey, revealing that digital wallets have become a mainstream payment method for American consumers. However, cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and AI agents still face trust and security barriers. The survey found that 67% of respondents had used a digital wallet in the past 90 days, with 45% using it weekly; 68% of consumers have never engaged with cryptocurrencies, and 59% believe that cryptocurrencies have no practical use. Awareness of stablecoins is only at 16%, with major concerns including fraud risk (48%), fund security (46%), and the belief that they are "unnecessary" (39%). Acceptance of AI agents is limited, with 47% of respondents stating they would not allow AI to make purchases on their behalf. Among consumers willing to use AI for payments, most still require human confirmation or only accept recommendation modes. S&P Global noted that insufficient regulatory clarity alone is unlikely to change consumer attitudes towards stablecoins, and issuers need to address core trust issues such as fraud and fund security.
