Solana Increases Block Limit to 100 Million Compute Units

Solana has increased the block limit from 60 to 100 million compute units (CU), representing a 66% increase in the capacity of each block. This change was activated on the mainnet on July 29, 2026, at the start of epoch 1009. Between July 2025 and this increase, 11.2% of the produced blocks utilized 56 million CUs or more, highlighting the need for this adjustment during periods of high congestion. This increase comes a year after the previous rise from 50 to 60 million, and the team behind the SIMD-0286 proposal opted for a more aggressive approach. However, larger blocks may take longer to execute, which could slow down the network's progress and affect the infrastructure of RPC nodes, indexers, and exchanges. Node operators need to update their clients. Although this adjustment does not change the confirmation speed of individual transactions, it allows for more network activity within the same time window, especially during high congestion periods such as trading spikes.
