Scroll Transitions to AI Agent-Focused Privatized L2
Scroll co-founder and CEO Raza stated that general-purpose L2s are outdated, and Scroll will transition to a privatized L2 serving AI Agents. Raza pointed out that Vitalik Buterin recently acknowledged that "the original role of L2 is no longer reasonable," despite being the one who initially proposed the Rollup roadmap. Raza believes that a general-purpose positioning is no longer a safe choice, and L2s will not be needed if they do not move towards specialization. After transitioning to a private chain, DeFi will no longer be able to exist on Scroll, but Raza mentioned that this is not a bad thing, as DeFi does not need to exist on every chain; chains like Arbitrum and Base can already fulfill this role, and trading demands can be met by platforms like Hyperliquid. Raza also noted that Aave has announced an orderly shutdown of its deployments on Scroll and several other chains, stating that this reflects "the roadmap operating as expected," and user funds will not be affected. The core of Scroll's new direction is "Scroll Compass," with specific details to be revealed in upcoming videos. The team believes that payments between Agents are a real trend, but merely a "function" rather than a "product," and the company aims to make choices that are "early and specific" rather than "safe and general."
