PowerCompute Secures $18 Million Refinancing from Arch Lending Backed by 307 BTC
Bitcoin mining company PowerCompute has announced that it has secured a new credit line of $18 million from the cryptocurrency lending platform Arch Lending, using 307 bitcoins from its treasury as collateral to consolidate three existing debts. The company signed a bridge loan agreement with Arch Lending on July 27 and officially launched the new bitcoin-backed credit arrangement on August 3. The initial annual interest rate for the new credit is approximately 2%, significantly lower than the 12% interest rate on the previous two loans totaling $7 million. The old debts include an $11 million loan from Galaxy Digital, a $5 million loan from SE and AJ Liebel (used for the purchase of a 15MW mining facility in Oklahoma), and a $2 million loan from Liebel (used for the purchase of an 11MW mining facility in Mississippi). This refinancing reduces PowerCompute's interest burden while maintaining its price position in bitcoin, avoiding the need to liquidate bitcoins to repay debts. However, if the price of bitcoin drops significantly, PowerCompute may face margin calls for additional collateral, or even trigger forced liquidation. Based on the collateralization of $18 million in loans with 307 bitcoins, the loan-to-value ratio is approximately 84%. A decline in bitcoin prices exceeding 15-20% could trigger margin call requirements.
