Pepe Creator Matt Furie Suspected of Switching to Crypto Scams
On August 10, Matt Furie, the creator of Pepe, became active on X after a 9-month silence, during which his account was linked to three meme coin contract addresses, and the tweets were subsequently deleted. On August 9, the account posted that "the account was hacked and does not endorse any shitcoins," mentioning that the official website had already issued a warning. On August 1, Furie changed his profile picture to hoodrat and posted content related to HOODRAT, which caused the token's market value to surge before the tweet was deleted, leading to a price crash. On August 3, the account published the official contract address and artwork for the DORK token, which was also deleted. On-chain analysis showed that the deployer quickly completed bundled buy and sell transactions, extracting significant ETH profits. On August 7, Furie expressed support for the BOYZ token, calling it the only token he would endorse, and related content was widely shared. On August 9, Furie's account attached a screenshot of the official website, displaying the text "my twitter is hacked- i do not endorse any shitcoins," but on-chain analysts questioned the credibility of this statement, as the official website did not include that text, and there were no prior traces found in X search.
