Pentagon Will Not Complete Use of $400 Million Aid to Ukraine Until 2029
The Pentagon will not complete the use of the $400 million allocated for aid to Ukraine until the 2029 fiscal year. Delays in funding have drawn criticism from American lawmakers amid Kyiv's need for air defense and weaponry. In May, the U.S. Department of Defense sent a letter to Congress members outlining a spending plan, stating that funding must be legally secured by 2026, with the final delivery of aid expected by September 30, 2029. Congress members have expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of aid implementation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to raise the issue of urgent air defense system deliveries during a meeting with Donald Trump. The Pentagon plans to allocate funds to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Ukrainian military, including $200 million for weapons and ammunition, $99.9 million for vehicles, and $100 million for services. Last year, the Pentagon suspended arms deliveries to Ukraine due to concerns about depleting U.S. weapon stockpiles. Trump has shown a more favorable position towards Ukraine, supporting the proposal for the production of Patriot missile interceptors.
