Palantir CEO: AI Sovereignty Depends on Control of Application Layer
The CEO of Palantir emphasized that AI sovereignty is not just about model selection, but rather about controlling data, the application layer, and security architecture. During the G20 Innovation Ministers' Meeting on September 2, he stated that countries need to define the roles of American companies and their own companies within the AI technology structure. Since AI technology is applied differently in each country, he explained that nations need a space to examine 'what works and why it works.' He mentioned that most countries, excluding China, need to decide which parts of AI technology will be handled by American companies and which will be managed by their own firms. The Palantir CEO described the AI ecosystem as divided into multiple layers, noting that even non-cutting-edge open models can be utilized like cutting-edge models for specific purposes. Additionally, he pointed out through examples of supply chain optimization that relying solely on model responses is insufficient, stating that models without an application layer are not 100% accurate. He stressed that all assumptions must be validated to use AI responses in decision-making. Palantir provides a structure that controls models and prevents data leakage through the application layer and integration layer. He criticized the lack of technical expertise in AI regulation and also mentioned the challenges of monitoring AI development.
