MicroStrategy Preferred Stock Outperforms Bitcoin in 1-Year Comparison
Michael Saylor's one-year performance chart shows that MicroStrategy Preferred Stock (STRC) gained 9% from August 14, 2025, to August 14, 2026, while Bitcoin (BTC) fell 47%. STRC pays 12% annually in cash dividends and is designed to maintain its value near 100 dollars. In August, MicroStrategy sold 1,690 Bitcoin to fund STRC share buybacks after the stock slipped below par. Other preferred securities, STRD, STRF, and STRK, fell 8%, 9%, and 27% respectively, but still outperformed Bitcoin. STRK tracks MicroStrategy's common stock more closely, converting into 0.1 shares of MSTR. Critics express concerns about the sustainability of the payout, with Arca's CIO warning about the strain on the company's financials. The chart omits MSTR, which closed at 93.04 dollars on August 14, down 75% from a year prior. Bitcoin's price was around 63,072 dollars, remaining in a bear market. MicroStrategy has shifted to being a net seller, adding 37 Bitcoin over two months but selling 1,638 in one week. Saylor's new model addresses credit risk by publishing floor prices for creditors based on Bitcoin levels.
