Mastercard is collaborating with the stablecoin network Borderless on a pilot project to explore the compliance application of the Mastercard Crypto Credential standardized framework in cross-border stablecoin payments. This framework aims to assist participants in incorporating compliance signals into their approval, compliance, and risk processes. Kevin Lehtiniitty, co-founder and CEO of Borderless, stated that this collaboration applies the trust model of correspondent banks to digital asset payments, with Crypto Credential serving as the governance and verification layer, while Mastercard will not be involved in fund processing or settlement.
