Japan's services producer inflation rises to 3.7%, complicating BOJ outlook
Japan's services producer inflation increased to 3.7% in September from a revised 3.5% in August, driven by higher freight costs. Ocean freight contributed 0.2 percentage points to this annual inflation change. Excluding international transportation, inflation remained steady at 2.9%, while price growth in labor-intensive services eased to 2.6% from a revised 2.7%. The Bank of Japan (BOJ) will meet on October 29-30, with a policy statement expected on October 30. The current overnight call-rate target is around 1.25%, effective September 24. A tighter-than-expected policy could increase yen borrowing costs, impacting leveraged investors and potentially affecting Bitcoin exposure. Scheduled cash earnings rose 3.8% year-on-year in August across all employment types, indicating wage growth. The BOJ's inflation framework considers consumer price trends alongside labor market conditions, output gaps, and wage growth.
