Initial jobless claims in the U.S. have slightly decreased to the lowest level since July, while continuing claims have fallen to a three-year low, indicating a healthy labor market. Continuing claims decreased by 11,000 to 1.7 million, the lowest since March 2023. Initial claims are hovering near historical lows, suggesting that companies are reluctant to cut jobs amid stable economic activity. Hiring has been more cautious, with the government set to release the non-farm payroll report on Friday, which is expected to show the unemployment rate holding steady at 4.1% in September. The four-week moving average of initial claims has dropped to a seven-week low of 200,000. Without seasonal adjustments, initial claims have decreased in most states, including Hawaii, Georgia, and Texas.
