HSBC Plans to Launch Redcoin in the Second Half of 2026, Supporting Transfers and Merchant Payments
HSBC plans to launch the Hong Kong dollar stablecoin HSBC Redcoin in the second half of 2026, initially supporting peer-to-peer transfers and merchant payments through PayMe and the HSBC HK Mobile App, with plans to expand to wholesale scenarios for businesses and institutions later. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority issued stablecoin issuer licenses to HSBC and Anchorpoint Financial on April 10. HSBC will conduct education on anti-fraud measures and transparent redemption mechanisms for the public in Hong Kong. A survey of 1,060 customers aged 18 to 64 conducted by HSBC showed that 74% of respondents recognized at least one application scenario for stablecoins, 62% believed that clear regulatory rules could enhance confidence in usage, and 55% supported strengthening related education.
