EIP-7906: Ethereum Security Proposal Under Evaluation
Ethereum developers are evaluating the EIP-7906 proposal for the Hegota upgrade, which aims to give users more control over the transactions they sign. EIP-7906 seeks to add outcome control to Ethereum transactions, helping users predefine which changes they allow to occur at the end of a transaction when they sign it. The proposal aims to address a significant issue faced by Ethereum users when interacting with smart contracts. Users approve transactions in their wallets for operations such as decentralized exchanges or DeFi protocols, but understanding the outcomes can be challenging in complex transactions. EIP-7906 is working on a system that will allow for the control of changes that occur after the completion of a transaction and the ability to revert outcomes that do not comply with predefined rules. EIP-7906 is not yet active and has not been definitively approved by developers. The proposal will enable users to determine what they allow to happen after a transaction. Additionally, EIP-7906 aims to reduce the risk of blind signing. Users sign transactions trusting what the smart contract will do. With EIP-7906, wallets and decentralized applications will be able to control balance changes that occur after a transaction and changes in the smart contract's storage. The proposal is currently suggested for inclusion. Ethereum's next major upgrade, Glamsterdam, is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.
