eCash fork Alpha chain launched, Mainnet expected by October 31
An eCash fork has launched an Alpha chain, producing blocks from height 963648 on August 23. The permanent fork is scheduled for a Mainnet launch around Bitcoin block 973728 on October 31, with a 1:1 allocation of ECX for Bitcoin holders. The August 23 event served as a rehearsal, with no change in Bitcoin ownership and no universal freeze of Bitcoin services reported. The Alpha chain showed a block at height 963648, with evidence of a competing stale block, indicating it is a test network rather than a permanent solution. The revised schedule includes three stages: Alpha at 963648 on August 23, Beta near 967680 on September 20, and the permanent Mainnet on October 31. Practice units, known as pECX, can be redeemed for real ECX at Mainnet, with 1000 pECX equating to 10 ECX. However, there is no guarantee that Alpha transaction history will carry into Beta or Mainnet. Current guidance for coin-splitting uses an opt-in nLockTime of 499999999 for ECX transactions, with integrators advised to verify the final scheme before launch. Bitcoin services remain operational, with various exchanges announcing their plans for handling the new asset.
