From January to May 2026, the number of clothing and footwear purchases in Russia decreased by 10% compared to the same period in 2025. The decline in fashion retail sales for the year 2025 was 11%. The average receipt for clothing and footwear in the first half of 2026 increased by 7%, amounting to 3,100 rubles. Sellers are raising prices to compensate for the drop in demand and rising production costs. 34% of consumers have shifted to a cheaper price segment, and purchases in second-hand stores have increased by 9%. Experts note that the trend towards saving is intensifying: Russians are increasingly looking for discounts and buying used items. The main reason for saving is the deterioration of financial conditions due to the economy's reorientation towards military needs. Although Rosstat reports a 1.5% increase in income, surveys show the opposite. According to Gallup, 56% of Russians reported a decline in living standards, which is a record high over the past 20 years. 60% of respondents believe that the economic situation is worsening.
