The English Football Association fined Chelsea £10 million, equivalent to $14 million, for violations committed during Roman Abramovich's management from 2003 to 2022. The sanction arose after Abramovich's departure, when irregularities in the transfer market were detected. The investigation revealed that between 2009 and 2022, the club used unlicensed intermediaries to conceal the true value of transfers, including those of Samuel Eto'o, Eden Hazard, and Willian. Initially, a six-point deduction for the next season was considered, but the club appealed and managed to overturn this sanction, thanks to the self-reporting and cooperation of the new owners, the BlueCo consortium. Chelsea was praised for its cooperation during the investigation. The FA announced that the fine will be allocated to grassroots football in the country and warned that future violations could result in harsher penalties. Additionally, the club will recover Mykhailo Mudryk, who was suspended for four years after testing positive for meldonium, a substance that is no longer banned.
