Anthropic Reports $16.3 Billion Revenue in First Half, Future Computing Commitments May Reach $75 Billion
Artificial intelligence company Anthropic reported a revenue of $16.3 billion in the first half of the year, compared to $1.1 billion in the same period last year; the net loss was $80.7 billion, up from $13 billion a year earlier, primarily due to accounting expenses related to convertible notes and other financing instruments. In the first half, spending on computing power and infrastructure was nearly $9 billion, with an expected total expenditure of $7.3 billion for the entire year of 2025. Over the next 7 to 10 years, cloud computing contract expenditures are projected to be around $450 billion, with commitments to pay over $160 billion for leasing Google chips. Commitments for infrastructure spending have exceeded $600 billion, and if agreements still under negotiation are included, this could increase by up to $150 billion. Approximately 20% of revenue in the first half came from two clients, and future revenues are expected to remain significantly dependent on a small number of clients. The document notes that AI models could pose real-world risks, with catastrophic accident losses potentially not covered by insurance, and the construction of data centers facing increasingly organized political resistance.
