107 hacks cause 1.05 billion euros in damage in Q3 2026
In the third quarter of 2026, 107 hacks resulted in approximately 1.05 billion euros in losses, a 55 percent increase compared to the previous quarter. Security company Hacken investigated the methods of the attackers and concluded that the label 'audited' does not automatically mean that a crypto project is safe. Many attackers exploited software and systems that had not been audited. An audit often focuses only on the computer code of a project, such as smart contracts, but other important components like digital keys and crypto wallets do not always fall under the same scrutiny. This can lead to blind spots. According to Hacken's quarterly report, about 77 percent of the total damage was related to these blind spots. Attackers exploited vulnerabilities in vendor software and components that were outside the last audit. Stolen digital keys also led to significant losses. For users, an audit logo is just a starting point; it is crucial to look at the date of the audit, which components were examined, and whether identified issues have been resolved. Hacken emphasizes that hackers often choose the entry point that remains open, rather than the most scrutinized component.
